Presentation

The Course in Veterinary Assistance Techniques (TAVet) aims to train the professional figure of the veterinary assistant capable of assisting the veterinary doctor in the management and safeguarding of the well-being of the individual animal in physiological and pathological conditions, in different contexts such as kennels, catteries, stables, bioparks, experimental stables, veterinary clinics/clinics and recovery centers for wild animals.

The educational path is divided into a single three-year course.

The first year includes the training area of understanding biological phenomena, functional to the acquisition of the basic knowledge necessary for progression towards the complex phenomena that describe the animal and its interactions with the environment. The first animal models addressed in their complexity are represented by the dog and the cat, studying their structure, functioning, management and well-being.

In the second year, the structure, functioning, management and well-being of horses, non-conventional animals and laboratory animals are addressed. With a preparatory function with respect to the third, the educational path includes the provision of the training area relating to biosafety.

During the third year, issues relating to the management and well-being of the veterinary patient will be addressed through the training area of veterinary medical assistance and veterinary surgical assistance. Upon completion of the educational path, the transversal skills training area will contribute to the personal and professional growth of the student. The third year of the course also includes freely chosen training activities, which will contribute significantly to the completion of the student's training and to the potential inclusion of the graduate in the employment and professional context, as well as further promoting responsible autonomy of the student in defining a personalized path.

Already starting from the first year, independent judgement, the development of manual skills and a sense of responsibility are further consolidated through an extensive period of practical training to be carried out in institutions, veterinary clinics, veterinary clinics and other organizations in the sector present in the area.

The course will be based at the Grugliasco Campus (TO) and will have spaces and facilities at the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (SAMEV) and the Department of Veterinary Sciences. In particular, practical activities will be carried out in the teaching laboratories, in the Skill Labs, in the University Veterinary Hospital (OVU), and in the Non-Conventional Animal Centre (CANC). Erasmus mobility for study will allow the TAVet student population to spend a period of study lasting a minimum of three months and a maximum of twelve months at a foreign university as part of the Erasmus+ programme.
