Non sono previsti prerequisiti specifici per la frequenza al corso in oggetto; le competenze linguistiche acquisite al termine del ciclo di studi della scuola secondaria sono ritenute generalmente sufficienti per frequentare il corso.
E’ comunque prevista la somministrazione di un test di ingresso/test di livello (QPT) per tutti gli/le studenti/sse che frequenteranno il corso/laboratorio di lingua inglese. Il test sarà effettuato sulla piattaforma didattica di e-learning Moodle. Sarà necessario pre-iscriversi e registrarsi online con le modalità che saranno comunicate successivamente.The course has no specific prerequisites. Generally, the range of language skills that students develop throughout secondary education is sufficient to enable them to attend classes.

Obiettivi formativi
Il laboratorio di lingua inglese rientra nell’area formativa delle competenze trasversali. Il laboratorio concorre a determinare gli obiettivi del Corso di studi fornendo allo studente/alla studentessa gli strumenti per leggere e comprendere (reading comprehension) testi in inglese quali brevi articoli scientifici e/o divulgativi, capitoli di libro, ect. relativi al contesto delle scienze veterinarie. Ulteriori obiettivi sono rappresentati:
- dallo sviluppo dell'abilità di ascolto di brevi testi audio/video sulle medesime tematiche;
- dall'analisi grammaticale e stilistica dei testi;
- dall'apprendimento lessicale
The English language laboratory is part of the transversal skills training area. The laboratory contributes to determining the objectives of the course of study by providing the student with the tools to read and understand (reading comprehension) texts in English, such as short scientific and/or popular articles, book chapters, etc. relating to the context of veterinary sciences. Further objectives are represented by:
- the development of the ability to listen to short audio/video texts on the same topics;
- the grammatical and stylistic analysis of the texts;

Risultati dell'apprendimento attesi
CONOSCENZA E CAPACITÀ DI COMPRENSIONE: ci si attende la conoscenza e comprensione di contenuti linguistici (lettura, comprensione ed analisi di testi scientifici) almeno di livello QCER B1 o di analoghi livelli.
CAPACITÀ DI APPLICARE CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE: lo studente/la studentessa dovrà saper applicare le conoscenze acquisite alla comprensione dei contenuti didattici. Tale abilità sarà verificata durante la prova finale (approvato/pass).
AUTONOMIA DI GIUDIZIO: lo studente/la studentessa dovrà dimostrare di saper analizzare in modo critico ed in autonomia il materiale didattico disponibile anche attraverso attività di autoapprendimento.
ABILITÀ COMUNICATIVE: il possesso di sufficienti abilità comunicative che saranno stimolate durante la frequenza del corso/laboratorio.
CAPACITÀ DI APPRENDIMENTO: lo studente/la studentessa dovrà dimostrare una capacità di apprendere i contenuti didattici di un livello almeno pari a QCER B1 o meglio ancora B1+, come descritto tra gli obiettivi formativi.
KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING SKILLS: students must prove to have acquired knowledge and comprehension of language content - reading, comprehension and analysis of scientific texts - at a level of competence equivalent to CEFR B1 (minimum).
USE OF KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING SKILLS: students must prove to be able to use the knowledge and the learning skills developed during the course by passing the final exam.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: students will have to show that they are able to analyse the teaching material available in a critical and independent way, and to further practise the language with self-study activities, working independently.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: even though the overall goals mainly focus on developing reading comprehension skills, during the course the students will have to show that they have achieved a sufficient level of oral communication skills in English.
LEARNING ABILITIES: students will have to demonstrate to have developed a range of study skills in the subject area (in terms of reading comprehension) equivalent to CEFR B1 level or better yet B1 plus, as illustrated in the overall goals.

Analisi di diverse tipologie di testo scientifico e soluzione dei relativi quesiti di comprensione. Rinforzo grammaticale rivolto in particolare all'approfondimento della comprensione dei quesiti, alla concordanza dei tempi, alla voce passiva, alla sintassi della frase principale e subordinata, in particolare alle proposizioni relative, ai connettivi logici e alle espressioni di tempo e luogo.
Il programma del corso corrisponde ai contenuti presenti nella dispensa realizzata appositamente per gli studenti di TAVET e SIZOS e verrà caricato sulla piattaforma di e-learning.
SyllabusLearners are introduced to a variety of scientific text types, which are accompanied by a number of exploitation exercises that have been selected to develop learners' reading skills. Activities include comprehension and vocabulary work as well as practice in dealing with different speed reading techniques and reading sub-skills. Emphasis is placed on textual analysis.
The classroom activities aim to get the students used to the scientific text and also to give learners a thorough foundation in grammar. New language items are presented in context via reading texts and grammar rules are then analysed and explained, focusing in particular on word order, verb tenses, the passive voice, relative clauses and expressions of place and time, in order to prepare students to pass the final cloze test.
The course syllabus corresponds to the contents of the study pack specifically prepared for the course and will be uploaded to the e-learning platform.

Modalità di insegnamento
L'insegnamento comprende 30 ore di attività frontale di tipo teorico-pratico. Trattasi di unità didattiche durante le quali gli studenti/le studentesse lavorano insieme alla docente-esercitatrice sui testi e gli esercizi di comprensione contenuti nella dispensa preparata ad hoc per il corso ed anche su testi audio/video proposti dalla docente in sede di lezione. Sono previste sessioni di lavoro individuale, a coppie e/o piccoli gruppi e collettivo che sono integrate dalla docente-esercitatrice con riflessioni guidate di tipo grammaticale, strutturale e lessicale (strumenti didattici previsti: lavagna tradizionale e computer collegato a proiettore).
Parte integrante sono le esercitazioni per l'utilizzo del dizionario, per promuovere l'autoapprendimento e la comunicazione in lingua inglese (ascolto/produzione orale in aula sulle tematiche proposte dalla dispensa).
Types of teaching
The course consists of 30 hours of theory and practice work, where the students and the teacher will analyse together the texts and learning material contained in the study pack especially prepared by the teacher for this particular course and integrated each time with some audio/video material provided by the teacher. Classroom activities contemplate individual work, pair work and/or group work, integrated by the teacher, who provides grammar and vocabulary support (teaching tools provided: ordinary blackboard and computer with overhead projector).
Lessons will also allow students to learn how to use a dictionary effectively, to promote self-study and to develop English speaking skills (listening/speaking on the topics proposed in the study pack).

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
L’esame del corso VET0050 si svolge in forma di prova scritta finalizzata all’ accertamento dei risultati attesi sopra descritti. Più nel dettaglio, la prova comprende una parte di reading comprehension, in cui gli studenti/le studentesse devono fornire risposte legate ai contenuti di alcuni testi su vari argomenti di biologia, scienze veterinarie e scienze zootecniche, una parte di verifica del lessico (gap-fill) e delle strutture grammaticali (Cloze Test e Use of English con domande a scelta multipla), ed una parte finale di listening-comprehension (ascolto di un breve file audio). Si ricorda che NON é ammesso l'uso del dizionario di nessun tipo.
Si ricorda che l’esame finale non può essere sostenuto prima della finestra esami del semestre in cui è previsto il corso.
La prova viene effettuata on-line (sui PC delle aule informatiche) utilizzando la piattaforma e-learning del corso.
Per gli studenti/studentesse che frequentano almeno il 70% delle attività didattiche è prevista la possibilità di sostenere una prova preliminare che consiste in una presentazione di uno o due testi/argomenti proposti dal docente durante il corso. Se 'approvato' questo conferirà 3 punti in più in sede di esame finale.
Nota: la prova è superata con la sola dicitura "approvato" senza l'indicazione del voto in 30esimi. Gli studenti/le studentesse in possesso di certificazione linguistica equivalente/superiore al livello QCER B1 possono fare richiesta di riconoscimento del titolo, compilando apposita domanda presso la segretaria studenti e presentando originale del certificato; tale certificato sarà ritenuto valido su delibera della Commissione Carriere Studenti.
Types of assessment
A written exam (computer-based) that comprises a reading comprehension exercise, a listening comprehension exercise, a vocabulary exercise, a cloze test and a Use of English test with multiple-choice questions, during which the students must answer a number of questions related to texts that may be about biology, veterinary science or livestock science (time allowed: 1hour). Dictionaries are NOT permitted.
All students who have attended at least 70% of the course are offered an exemption (Esonero). The exemption test will be oral and will consists of a presentation of one or two texts/topics proposed by the teacher during the course. If 'approved', this will give three more points in the final exam.
Please note that the final exam cannot be taken before the exam session of the semester in which the course is scheduled.
Please note that the exam is considered passed with the mark "approved", without indication of a X/30 mark. Students who already have internationally recognised foreign language certifications at B1 level (minimum) can obtain the credits required by the study plan of their course by contacting their registrar's office. However, certificates must be evaluated case by case by the Students’ Career Commission and therefore students need to apply by filling in the specific request form available at the registrar's office and submit their certificate in the original for acceptance.

The primary support activity is conducted during the instructor's office hours, accompanied by the course Moodle page, where the materials used in class will be made available. The exact times of the office hours will be announced at the beginning of the course.
